* Ramón David Gomez  *

Drums, Timbales, and other Latin Percussion.  Ramón
was born August 31, 1957 in the mountain city of Cayey,
Puerto Rico.  He began playing Latin percussion at the age
of 10 in a family band.  In addition to playing timbales, he also
plays congas, bongos, tamboras, and other small percussion
instruments.  Ramón is a graduate of the University of Puerto
Rico, where he obtained his B.A. in business administration.
During his college days, Ramón played with many different
bands, but his most memorable gig is with the Vicki Vimari
band alongside Manengue Hidalgo, renowned Master Conga
Player.  He has had the privilege of sharing the stage with
some luminaries in the Latin music community, such as:

**        Vicki Vimari – lead singer for the Ricardo Ray
Orchestra
**        Manengue Hidalgo – Master Conga player
**        Elvis Crespo
**        Lalo Rodriguez
**        Maelo Rivera (son of the very beloved Ismael
Rivera – El Sonero Mayor!)

His music and style have been influenced by no less than
Tito Puente, Orestes Vilato (Cuban timbalero), Nicky Marerro
(timbalero), and Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez (Cuban
Master drummer).  Ramón is a U.S. Navy veteran, and
currently lives in Jacksonville, Florida.  His hobbies include
woodcraft and (in his own words), “music, music, and more
music!”  Ramon is Carlos’ older cousin … it does run in the
family!
